Junior dos Santos Challenges Jake Paul to Step Up After Gervonta Davis Fight Collapses
Former UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos has thrown his name into the mix as the next man to face Jake Paul, offering himself as a replacement after Paul’s scheduled fight with Gervonta Davis fell apart. The Brazilian powerhouse says he’s ready to give Paul the “real test” fans have been waiting for.
After reports confirmed that Gervonta Davis’ legal issues halted the anticipated crossover bout, dos Santos wasted no time taking to social media with a direct callout. “Hey Jake Paul… to get to Anthony Joshua or any other big heavyweight you need that test, and I’m the one that offers that to you right now,” he wrote. “No easy way out anymore. Let’s go.”
The former UFC champion’s challenge adds a new layer of intrigue to Paul’s boxing career. Dos Santos, who captured the UFC heavyweight title in 2011 by knocking out Cain Velasquez, has long been considered one of the most technically polished boxers in MMA history. Known for his crisp jab and devastating combinations, “Cigano” built a reputation on clean, disciplined striking—a skill set that could make for an intriguing matchup against the YouTuber-turned-fighter.
Jake Paul, now 12-1 as a professional boxer, has faced a variety of opponents ranging from MMA legends to former champions, including Tyron Woodley, Nate Diaz, Ben Askren, and Mike Perry. While his resume shows growing legitimacy, critics argue that Paul has yet to step into the ring with a true heavyweight or an opponent with elite-level striking pedigree. Dos Santos is looking to change that narrative.
“I’ve fought the best in the world for years,” dos Santos said in a follow-up interview. “If Jake really wants to prove he’s serious about boxing, I’m right here. Let’s see if he’s ready for someone who actually knows how to punch.”
Dos Santos last fought in March 2024, where he defeated Alan Belcher by TKO in a heavyweight boxing match, proving he still has the power and conditioning to compete at a high level. With Paul’s next move uncertain after the Davis cancellation, dos Santos’ offer could present the perfect opportunity for both men—Paul to prove his credibility, and dos Santos to show that the transition from octagon to ring still favors real fighters.
If Jake Paul accepts, fans could be treated to a legitimate heavyweight showdown that tests Paul’s limits like never before. For now, the ball is firmly in Jake’s court—and Junior dos Santos is waiting, gloves on, for an answer.
