Julian Erosa has spent most of his UFC career refusing to stay gone. He fought his way back after two releases, turned a short-notice return into his longest run with the promotion and built a reputation for fights that rarely leave room to breathe.

Now the 37-year-old featherweight is choosing the end for himself. Erosa says his bout with JeongYeong Lee at UFC Vegas 123 on October 31 will be his final fight, no matter what happens inside the Meta APEX.

"I haven't really made it a big deal, but this will be my last fight," Erosa told James Lynch of Fanatics View.

Why Erosa set the date before the fight

Erosa's reasoning is unusually honest. A win would give him the rush that has kept him competing for more than 15 years. A loss would make him want another chance to fix it. He knows either result could talk him into staying, so he made the decision before the cage door closes.

"I just wanted to give myself one more opportunity to try to get my hand raised, but I wanted to make it a date of when I was going to be done," Erosa said. "Win, lose, or draw, I'm going to want to fight again."

Fatherhood changed the calculation. Erosa said fighting once sat above everything else in his life, but his son and his long-term health now come first. He plans to move his family from Las Vegas back to Washington after the fight.

"The order of things that are important in my life has switched a little bit after having my son," Erosa said. "If I can get out of fighting with my health intact, that's what I want."

There is no retirement tour attached to the announcement and no demand for a ceremonial matchup. Erosa is giving himself one last ordinary fight night, which feels right for a career that was never built around easy assignments.

A career built on the way back

Erosa first reached the UFC through Season 22 of The Ultimate Fighter and won his official debut in December 2015. That first stay lasted two fights. He later won on Dana White's Contender Series, returned on short notice and was released again after three straight defeats.

The third run changed how people saw him. Erosa came back in June 2020 as a heavy underdog against Sean Woodson, fell behind and found a third-round D'Arce choke. He followed it with the sort of volatile performances that made "Juicy J" a reliable watch even when the results swung against him.

The official UFC profile credits Erosa with 31 professional wins, including 12 knockouts and 14 submissions. Those numbers fit the fighter: long for the division, willing to trade, and dangerous enough on the mat to punish an opponent who assumes the chaos is only happening on the feet.

His record also carries the damage that comes with that approach. Erosa enters UFC Vegas 123 after consecutive losses, and he spoke openly about leaving while his health still allows him to choose what comes next. That is not a dramatic line written for a farewell package. It is the practical concern of a fighter who has spent more than 15 years in professional MMA.

JeongYeong Lee still gets the full fight

The UFC's official event page lists Erosa against South Korea's JeongYeong Lee on the preliminary card beneath Renato Moicano versus Tom Nolan. Lee is 11-3 and trying to steady his own UFC run, so he has no reason to treat the bout like a tribute.

Erosa has not asked him to. He told Fanatics View that the announcement does not change the job in front of him. He wants one more win, one more chance to feel the part of fighting that made it so hard to stop.

If his hand is raised, the temptation will be to go again. If it is not, the instinct will be to chase redemption. Erosa has already decided that neither feeling gets to move the date.
