Christian Lee is defending his ONE lightweight MMA title on Friday, but he is not pretending this is just another name on the schedule.

Tye Ruotolo submitted Lee's younger brother, Adrian, last year. Now Ruotolo is coming for Christian's belt in only his third professional MMA fight. That history has turned the main event of The Inner Circle 37 into something more personal for the champion.

"I'm getting this one back for my brother. It's going to be all business in there," Lee told ONE Championship.

Lee and Ruotolo meet November 6 at Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok. Lee's lightweight title is at stake, with the event scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. ICT on ONE's member streaming service.

Why Adrian Lee matters

Ruotolo gave Adrian Lee his first professional loss at ONE Fight Night 35 in September 2025. Adrian survived a series of early scrambles, but Ruotolo took his back late in the second round and finished the fight with a rear-naked choke.

Christian does not sound angry at Ruotolo for winning. His point is colder than that: he believes Adrian could win a rematch, and he now gets the chance to prove that the family's MMA game is deeper than the result from their first meeting.

The champion is 18-4 with 17 finishes. He has spent years solving the kind of messy positions that do not exist in a pure grappling match, where a failed shot can turn into punches, knees or a bad minute trapped against the ropes. Ruotolo's jiu-jitsu credentials are beyond argument. Lee intends to make him deal with everything around the grappling.

"He's never stepped in there and fought five rounds. He hasn't been in any wars yet," Lee said. "His lack of experience is gonna be one of his biggest weaknesses."

The experience gap is real, but not simple

Ruotolo is 2-0 in MMA, and both wins ended by rear-naked choke. He is also 9-0 in ONE submission grappling competition, owns the promotion's welterweight grappling title and has defended it three times. Few fighters with two MMA bouts have spent this much time competing against elite grapplers under bright lights.

That still leaves a sharp contrast. Lee has 22 professional MMA fights and has gone deep in championship contests. Ruotolo has never entered a third MMA round.

Ruotolo is not ducking that comparison. He called for the matchup and told ONE that he would not have asked for it unless he believed he had "all the skills necessary and the heart." He expects a hard fight, but says he will leave Bangkok with the belt.

The tactical battle should be more complicated than striker against grappler. Lee is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt who is comfortable initiating scrambles. Ruotolo is dangerous enough on the mat that giving him repeated grappling exchanges could become a bad wager. Lee's experience may show in what happens between those exchanges: how quickly he resets, where he places the next strike and whether he can force Ruotolo to work after the first attack fails.

Five rounds to settle it

Lee says he plans to pressure Ruotolo, meet him in the scrambles and keep searching for a finish through all five rounds. Ruotolo has predicted that the fight is more likely to end within two.

One of them will have to be wrong. By Friday night, Lee will either have avenged Adrian and kept the lightweight belt, or Ruotolo will have won an MMA world title in his third professional fight.
