Carlos Calderon spent years trying to reach the UFC. Now that the call has arrived, he gets four days to make it count.
The reigning Fury FC featherweight champion is set to make his UFC debut against Austin Bashi this Saturday at UFC Vegas 124, according to a Wednesday report from MMA Fighting. Calderon replaces Lucas Brennan, who withdrew after suffering a torn ACL. MMA Fighting credited Heavy with first reporting the change.
The UFC had not posted a separate announcement when this story was published, and its event page still listed Brennan opposite Bashi. The booking is therefore being reported as a confirmed card change, not presented as a promotion announcement. The event takes place November 7 at Meta APEX in Las Vegas.
Calderon arrives with a belt
Calderon brings an 11-4 record with one no contest and the best run of his career. He has won three straight, most recently defending the Fury FC featherweight title with a five-round unanimous decision over Lorram Esteves on October 2.
That defense came less than five weeks before his UFC debut. The quick turnaround does not erase the difficulty of a four-day booking, especially at 145 pounds, but it means Calderon was in a full fight camp recently rather than starting from the couch.
His two wins before Esteves came by submission. Calderon choked out Damon Jackson in the fourth round in May to win Fury FC gold, then entered October with another chance to prove he could carry his pace through a five-round main event. Six of his 11 professional victories have come by submission, according to Sherdog's record database.
There is a rough edge to the story, too. Calderon already had one shot in front of UFC decision-makers. He lost to Alberto Montes by second-round anaconda choke on Dana White's Contender Series in October 2024. Instead of disappearing back into the regional circuit, he won five of his next six bouts and took a championship with him.
Bashi gets a dangerous replacement
Bashi, 14-2, remains on the card after losing his original opponent during fight week. The 24-year-old earned his UFC contract through the Contender Series in 2024, but his first three UFC appearances have been uneven.
He lost his unbeaten record against Christian Rodriguez, answered with a first-round rear-naked choke of John Yannis, then dropped a unanimous decision to Jose Delgado in July. UFC Stats lists the Yannis submission at 3:39 of Round 1 and confirms Bashi's current 14-2 record.
That makes this more interesting than a routine late replacement. Bashi is trying to steady his UFC run, while Calderon is arriving with a regional belt and a grappling record that cannot be treated as filler. Calderon has almost no time to prepare specifically for Bashi, but Bashi has the same problem in reverse. The style and opponent he studied all camp changed four days before the fight.
Another change to UFC Vegas 124
The Bashi-Calderon switch is the latest adjustment to a card that already lost its original main event. Sean Brady's injury removed him from a welterweight headliner against Gabriel Bonfim, and the UFC moved Waldo Cortes Acosta versus Johnny Walker into the top spot at heavyweight. Tatiana Suarez faces Virna Jandiroba in the co-main event.
The UFC lists the preliminary card for 5 p.m. ET on Paramount+, with the main card scheduled for 8 p.m. ET. Bashi versus Calderon is expected to appear on the prelims.
If the reported change holds, Calderon will walk into the UFC without the usual debut buildup, media week or opponent-specific camp. He will have something more useful than any of those: recent five-round work, a three-fight winning streak and the chance he kept fighting for after the Contender Series said no.
